Committed to championing the young designers of the future, we continually support emerging talent – enabling others to discover their exceptional creations. Spanning progressive collaborations, pop-up exhibitions, exclusive launches and #LibertyOpenCall, Liberty Discovers is a platform for the talent we believe in.
Young designers have long delighted in subverting Liberty’s classic floral prints – just look at the bold, acid-tinged blooms adorning the fetish-inspired pieces of Richard Quinn’s graduate show of SS18, held within our flagship building. Central Saint Martins graduate (and current fashion world darling) Matty Bovan is another fan of twisted Liberty florals – for a second season, in SS20 he revels in the Art Nouveau ornamentalism of Liberty Fabrics’ prints, undercut by utilitarian workwear silhouettes that evoke the shapes of nurses’ scrubs and cleaners’ housecoats. Bovan explains: “Rather than allude to a variety of historic themes, this season I’ve brought in very specific elements from the real world […] Bringing those Arts and Crafts aesthetics to functional shapes allows each to subvert the other.”
